Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide a basis for current surgical techniques in the management of lower extremity trauma
and reconstruction in foot and ankle disorders. This course is an intense three days of lectures with case presentations, coupled with specialized hands
on workshops.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this symposium, the participating foot and ankle surgeons will be able to:
- Understand principles of deformity correction including three ring external fixation application for use in ankle joint distraction.
- Be familiar with current concepts in pediatric trauma management and the basis for the Ponsetti method of clubfoot.
- Understand surgical management of open and closed trauma, utilizing internal and/or external fixation methods.
- Understand current thinking and utilization of orthobiologics.
- Be familiar with nerve entrapment surgical techniques in the diabetic and non-diabetic patient.
- Appreciate tendon repair techniques and current arthroscopic surgical potential.
- Realize present wound care healing treatments.
- Discuss rearfoot and ankle arthrodesis surgical techniques and indications.
